This is a quick band report from Graham G7TCS
This report is only a personal view of what I have heard, on the repeaters, over the week beginning monday the 17th of January in this bright new millennium. Most of the contacts all received information concerning the Club Web page.
Well you know what they say - It pays to advertise!
Monday 17-Jan
During the day there was a considerable lift on the 2m (144MHz) band, which gave rise to some very interesting conditions. The band was very busy indeed with people calling in from as far as Manchester and beyond in the UK. Whilst the French repeaters were giving a very good signal of 5&9+40 for most of day.
I had a very interesting couple of hours talking directly in the cork repeater in Ireland. Some of the call signs worked were EI2HY, EI6AH, MI1DSW and EI8DJ amongst many others. Although there was a considerable amount of co channel interference it was possible to have some very good and lengthy conversations instead of the usual 599 - Next please situation.
The nice thing was that it seemed that most people were happy to stay and chat instead of just wanting short contacts for the log. I also had the opportunity of chatting with Colin 2U0ARE who I havent heard for quite some time which was also very pleasant as we

managed to catch up on a few things as you can guess.
I listened to the weather report that evening - high pressure is going to dominate for the next few days so this may give an opportunity to work some more of our friends in other parts.
Tuesday 18-Jan
This day started very quiet once again with only a hint of the previous days (monday) activity. Although the high pressure was still dominating the only stations heard were the mobile and local stations around the area.
Wednesday 19-Jan
Again another day that began quiet with only the Local stations heard however there were signs of conditions coming back up.
Thursday 20-Jan
A day with a difference! I noticed that conditions were favourable on 70cms (430MHz) with repeaters coming in that are not normally heard unfortunately activity was at a minimum with most people being at work etc. but it was more active during the evening with some of the Novices manageing to take advantage of the conditions.
Friday 21-Jan
Ah well - all good things come to an end. Friday again very quiet and although the high pressure is moving east there are no further signs of the lift conditions that we had at the beginning of the week.
